Beginning January 16 and 17, FOX will air the best (and worst) of those auditions, followed by the infamous "Hollywood" semi-final rounds in February. Ultimately, someone from the Top 24 will follow Taylor Hicks' footsteps and become the next "American Idol." Ryan Seacrest returns as host, as do judges Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell. BACKGROUND Guest judges this season are scheduled to include singer Olivia Newton John, songwriter Carol Bayer Sager and singer/songwriter/"Nashville Star" host Jewel. Simon Fuller, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick are the executive producers.
